All-In-Ones Basics

An all-in-one can be a welcome accompaniment to any office environment. It allows you to perform several tasks from a single, space-saving machine including copying, printing, faxing, and scanning.

The higher-end all-in-ones offer the highest quality and fastest printing along with other options such as sorting, stapling, and binding. You also get considerably more memory to store multiple documents in the system for printing and scanning at another time.

Your staff will depend heavily on this machine so be sure to choose one that's reliable and can do the job. You want to carefully test the machine before purchasing one. Make sure the copy resolution is clear and that all photos and graphics transfer clean without blurring or smudging. Also, ask the vendor what your warranty options are in case you encounter a problem.

Points to consider:

  • What type of office equipment will best meet your needs - a relatively small, desktop-sized All-In-One with low speed and volume potential, or a higher capacity and speed digital copier?
  • What type of volume will you need the All-in-One machine to process on a daily basis?
  • What are the main functions you need the machine to handle (printing, scanning, faxing, copying)?
  • Will your All-in-One be shared by multiple users (network), or dedicated to one computer?
  • What paper types will you need the machine to handle?
  • Will you need to copy page from books or magazines that will not run through a document feeder?
